SKYWARN

The SKYWARN Program
SKYWARN is a public safety partnership between the National Weather Service (NWS), local emergency managers (EMs) and the general public. The NWNM EMCOMM Group operators have attended Basic SKYWARN training provided by the NOAA/NWS Albuquerque weather field office.

In the event of severe weather warnings for San Juan County being issued by the NWS, the NWNM Group will initiate a SKYWARN net and maintain the net for the duration of the warning. There are two levels of net that may be held.

STANDBY STATUS: Severe weather is possible in the area.

Amateurs should watch for signs of severe weather and monitor the MEGALINK repeater SYSTEM for further updates from the NWS WFO. (MEGALINK INFO @ http://www.nm5ml.com/)

Normal activity on this repeater is allowed, however, stations should keep all transmissions short to allow for break-ins.

ACTIVE STATUS: Severe weather is (present or imminent) in this area.

Amateurs are asked to actively search for signs of severe weather and provide appropriate reports to Net control. This net will be held on the NM5SJ linked repeater system to facilitate countywide coverage.

This is a directed net and all stations are asked to transmit only when recognized by Net Control.

Only Stations with legitimate severe weather reports, or emergency traffic should break into this net.
