Radio Operations
VOICE and DATA OPERATING MODES
The NWNM EMCOMM GROUP practices voice communications weekly on the analog NM5SJ Linked Repeater System. There are six repeaters across San Juan County that are linked together to provide countywide communications. We also regularly incorporate DSTAR digital voice operations using the local DSTAR repeaters.
We also regularly practice transmitting digital data modes utilizing Winlink VARA HF and FM, both RMS and P2P, FLDIGI, FLMSG, FLAMP, VarAC, and D-RATS messaging to maintain familiarity and proficiency with them. Recognizing the importance of the information we are handling, we practice sending agency forms such as ICS and Red Cross, and we strive for 100% accuracy and completeness when sending data messages.
The Group also participates weekly with FEMA Region 6 and FEMA National SHARES via HF voice and Digital Data modes.
The Group sponsors the NWNM Digital Net every Saturday morning on the 40 Meter HF band, utilizing the FLDIGI suite of data transmission programs. Normal coverage areas include Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas.
